Week 6 Day 1- God Made Me On Purpose!

Today at Son Seekers:

Your child learned that they were made on purpose by God. We talked about how purpose does not mean being famous, perfect, or better than someone else. Purpose can begin in ordinary moments — helping, encouraging, including others, telling the truth, and noticing the good God has placed in front of us.

Today’s Simple Truth:

God made me with purpose, and my life can be part of His good work.

Bible Verse We Talked About:

Ephesians 2:10 (New International Reader’s Version)

We are God’s creation. He created us to belong to Christ Jesus. Now we can do good works.

In Simple Words:

The Bible teaches that each person is made by God with care. Your child heard that they are not an accident, and they do not have to become someone else to matter. God made them on purpose, and their life can be used for good in simple, everyday ways.

This does not mean children need to figure out their whole future right now. It means they can begin asking, “What is one good thing I can do today?” That might look like helping at home, including someone who feels left out, using kind words, telling the truth, or trying again when something is hard.

Ask Your Child:

  1. What does it mean that God made you on purpose?

  2. What is one good thing a kid can do that really matters?

  3. Did you talk about comparing yourself to others today? What did you learn?

Try This Together:

At dinner, bedtime, or in the car, name one good thing you noticed in each other today. Keep it simple and specific.

Examples:

“I noticed you helped without being asked.”“I noticed you were kind to your brother/sister.”“I noticed you tried again when something was hard.”“I noticed you used your words well.”

Then ask: “What is one good thing you could do tomorrow?”

Simple Prayer Option:

If praying out loud is new for your family, you can simply read this together:

“God, thank You for making me on purpose. Help me remember that I do not have to be just like someone else to matter. Show me one good thing I can do with love. Amen.”

If You Are New to This:

You do not need to have all the answers to have a meaningful conversation with your child. A simple sentence like, “I’m glad God made you as you,” can help your child feel seen and valued. Faith conversations at home can start small.

Parent Encouragement:

Children often compare themselves more than we realize. They may compare who gets picked first, who is better at sports, who is funnier, who is smarter, or who gets the most attention. Today’s truth gives them a stronger foundation: their worth does not begin with performance or popularity. They are made with care, and their everyday choices can matter.

Adult Devotion:

Made Before You Had to Prove Anything

Scripture:  Ephesians 2:10 NIV

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.

Devotional Reading:

Ephesians 2:10 begins with identity before it moves to action. It says we are God’s handiwork before it says we were created for good works.

That order matters.

Many of us live as if our value starts with what we accomplish. We feel more secure when we are productive, appreciated, needed, successful, or noticed. We may not say it out loud, but we can start measuring our worth by how well we are doing, how much we are handling, how others respond to us, or whether our efforts seem to matter.

Children feel this too, just in smaller and more visible ways. They notice who gets picked first. They notice who is praised. They notice who seems better, faster, funnier, smarter, or more confident. They can begin to believe they matter more when they are noticed and less when they are overlooked.

Ephesians 2:10 speaks a better word over both children and adults: you are God’s handiwork.

That means your worth does not begin with performance. You were made with care before you achieved anything. You were loved before you proved anything. You were created with purpose before you understood what that purpose would look like.

The verse also says we were created for good works. That does not mean we earn God’s love by doing good things. It means our lives can become part of what is good, loving, helpful, and true. Purpose is not only about a future career, a major calling, or a big life plan. Purpose can begin with the next faithful choice in front of us.

A patient answer can matter. A kind word can matter. An apology can matter. Including someone can matter. Telling the truth can matter. Doing the unseen thing with love can matter.

Today, you do not have to prove that your life matters. You can begin from the truth that God made you with care, then look for one good thing He has placed in front of you.

Adult Reflection Questions:

  1. Where do I most often feel pressure to prove my worth?

  2. How does comparison make it harder for me to notice what God has placed in my own life?

  3. What is one ordinary good thing God may be inviting me to do today?

Simple Prayer:

“God, thank You for making me with care and purpose. Help me stop measuring my worth by performance, attention, or comparison. Show me the good work You have placed in front of me today, and help me respond with love. Amen.”

Next Steps:

Choose one person in your home today and speak one specific encouragement over them. Name something good you see in them that has nothing to do with being the best or earning praise.
