Today at Son Seekers:

Your child learned that they do not have to be afraid because God is with them. We talked about how courage does not mean pretending we never feel scared. Courage means remembering that God is with us, asking for help, and taking the next brave step with His help.

Today’s Simple Truth:

I do not have to be afraid because God is with me.

Bible Verse We Talked About:

Isaiah 41:10 (New International Reader’s Version)

10 So do not be afraid. I am with you.

Do not be terrified. I am your God.

I will make you strong and help you.

I will hold you safe in my hands.

I always do what is right.

In Simple Words:

Everyone feels afraid sometimes. Children may feel nervous about trying something new, joining a group, making a mistake, being corrected, apologizing, asking for help, or telling the truth.

Today, children learned that God does not shame us for feeling afraid. He helps us. Isaiah 41:10 reminds us that God is with us, strengthens us, helps us, and holds us steady.

That means we do not have to face hard things alone. When we feel afraid, we can remember what is true, pray, talk to a safe grown-up, and take one brave next step.

Ask Your Child:

  1. What does courage mean?

  2. Does courage mean we never feel afraid?

  3. What can you remember when you feel scared?

  4. Who are safe grown-ups you can ask for help?

  5. What is one brave step someone could take with God’s help?

Try This Together:

Talk about a simple situation where someone might feel afraid or nervous.

For example:

“What should someone do if they are nervous to try something new?”“What should someone do if they made a mistake and feel afraid to tell the truth?”“What should someone do if they need help but feel embarrassed to ask?”

Then ask:

“What truth can they remember?”“Who could help them?”“What is one brave next step?”

You can remind your child:

“God is with me. God helps me. I can ask for help. I can take the next brave step.”

Simple Prayer Option:

If praying out loud is new for your family, you can simply read this together:

If praying out loud is new for your family, you can simply read this together:

“God, thank You that You are with us when we feel afraid. Help us remember that we do not have to face hard things alone. Give us courage to tell the truth, ask for help, try again, apologize, and do what is right. Strengthen us and help us take the next brave step. Amen.”

If You Are New to This:

You do not have to have the perfect words. A simple sentence like, “God is with you, and I am here to help you,” can be a powerful reminder for your child.

Faith conversations can happen in normal moments — when your child feels nervous, disappointed, embarrassed, unsure, or afraid. Those moments are opportunities to remind them that God is near and safe adults can help.

Parent Encouragement:

Children learn courage by watching adults handle fear, pressure, and uncertainty too. When they see you pause, pray, tell the truth, apologize, ask for help, or take a hard next step, they see courage lived out in real life.

God’s promise is not that we will never feel afraid. His promise is that He is with us. That truth is for children, and it is for adults too.

Adult Devotion:

Courage When Fear is Real

Scripture:   Isaiah 41:10

10 So do not fear, for I am with you;

do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you;

I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Devotional Reading:

Isaiah 41:10 does not pretend fear is imaginary. God does not say, “There is nothing hard.” He says, “Do not fear, for I am with you.”

That difference matters.

Sometimes we treat fear like something we should be able to outgrow, hide, or push past. We may feel pressure to appear steady, confident, and in control — especially when children are watching us. But courage is not pretending we are never afraid. Courage is trusting God while fear is present.

Children need to learn that. They may feel afraid when they are trying something new, joining a group, telling the truth, apologizing, being corrected, asking for help, or facing something unfamiliar. Their fear may show up as tears, silence, anger, silliness, avoidance, or defiance. What they need is not shame. They need calm reassurance, wise support, and a reminder that they are not alone.

Adults need that too.

Fear may not always look like fear in us either. Sometimes it looks like control. Sometimes it looks like avoidance. Sometimes it looks like overreacting. Sometimes it looks like staying silent when we need to speak. Sometimes it looks like putting off a hard conversation, hiding a mistake, trying to keep everyone pleased, or carrying responsibility like it all depends on us.

Isaiah 41:10 gives us a better foundation: God is with us.

God’s presence does not mean every hard thing disappears immediately. It does not mean every situation becomes easy, every conversation feels comfortable, or every outcome becomes clear. But it does mean we are not abandoned in the middle of it.

God says, “I will strengthen you and help you.” That is not a call to self-confidence. It is an invitation to depend on Him. He gives strength for the step in front of us — the honest word, the calm response, the needed apology, the wise boundary, the patient correction, the humble request for help.

He also says, “I will uphold you.” God does not only point from a distance and tell us to be brave. He holds us steady.

Today, you may not need courage for something dramatic. You may need courage for an ordinary moment: to respond patiently, to tell the truth, to ask for support, to stop avoiding, to apologize, to lead calmly, or to keep doing what is right when fear or pressure is present.

You do not have to be fearless to be faithful.

God is with you.God will strengthen you.God will help you.God will uphold you.

Adult Reflection Questions:

  1. Where is fear, pressure, or uncertainty showing up in my life right now?

  2. How does fear tend to show up in me — avoidance, control, silence, anger, overthinking, or something else?

  3. What is one brave next step God may be helping me take today?

Simple Prayer:

“God, thank You that You are with me when I feel afraid, uncertain, or overwhelmed. Help me stop pretending I have to be fearless. Strengthen me to take the next brave step with humility, wisdom, and love. Hold me steady today as I lead, respond, speak, and serve. Amen.”

Optional Next Step:

Name one place where you wish fear would disappear before you move forward.

Then pray:

“God, You are with me here. Give me strength for the step in front of me.”

Take one small brave step today — not because fear is gone, but because God is with you.
