Today at Son Seekers:

Your child learned that God’s Word helps us follow Him one step at a time. We reviewed the truths from this week: God can be trusted, God shows the right way, God gives wisdom, and God’s way is good.

Today’s Simple Truth:

God’s Word helps me follow Him one step at a time.

Bible Verse We Talked About:

Psalm 119:105 (New International Reader’s Version)

105 Your word is like a lamp that shows me the way.

It is like a light that guides me.

In Simple Words:

A lamp or flashlight does not always show the whole road ahead. It usually gives enough light for the next step.

God’s Word is like that. It helps us know what is true, good, wise, and right. We may not always know the whole plan, but God helps us take the next faithful step.

That next step might be telling the truth, saying “I’m sorry,” asking for help, using kind words, including someone, forgiving, praying, or trying again.

Today, children learned that following God does not mean they have to understand everything at once. They can follow Him one step at a time.

Ask Your Child:

  1. Why does the Bible compare God’s Word to a lamp or light?

  2. What is one truth we learned this week?

  3. What is one next right step someone could take when they do not know what to do?

Try This Together:

As a family, talk about a simple situation where someone may not know the whole answer yet.

For example:

“What should someone do if they made a mistake?”

“What should someone do if they feel nervous asking for help?”

“What should someone do if they are not sure how to forgive?”

Then ask:

“What is one next faithful step?”

You can remind your child:

“We do not have to see the whole path to follow God today. We can take the next right step with His help.”

Simple Prayer Option:

If praying out loud is new for your family, you can simply read this together:

“God, thank You that Your Word is a light for our path. Help us trust You, ask for wisdom, remember Your way is good, and take the next faithful step. Guide our words, choices, friendships, and hearts. Amen.”

If You Are New to This:

You do not have to know the whole Bible or have every answer to help your child take a meaningful step. A simple question like, “What is the next right thing to do?” can help connect faith to everyday life.

Small conversations matter. Small steps matter.

Parent Encouragement:

Children learn what it means to follow God by watching everyday faithfulness. When they see you tell the truth, apologize, ask for help, pause before reacting, forgive, or choose kindness, they are seeing what it looks like to follow God one step at a time.

God’s Word gives light for children, and it gives light for adults too.

Adult Devotion:

Light for the Next Step

Scripture:   Psalm 119:105  NIV

105 Your word is a lamp for my feet,

a light on my path.

Devotional Reading:

Psalm 119:105 gives a simple and comforting picture: God’s Word is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path.

A lamp does not usually show the whole road. It gives enough light for the next step.

Most of us would rather have the full map. We want to know how things will work out, what the answer will be, how long the difficult season will last, and what every decision will lead to. We want clarity before we move. We want certainty before we trust.

But often, God just gives light for the next faithful step.

That can feel frustrating when we want control, but it can also be freeing. We do not have to solve everything today. We do not have to see the whole future. We do not have to carry every outcome. We can listen for what is true, wise, loving, and right — and take the next step with God.

For children, this is very practical. The next step may be telling the truth, saying “I’m sorry,” asking for help, using kind words, including someone, trying again, or praying when they feel unsure.

For adults, the next step may be just as practical.

Pause before reacting.

Have the conversation you have been avoiding.

Apologize.

Ask for help.

Tell the truth.

Forgive one small piece at a time.

Choose patience.

Set a wise boundary.

Stop rehearsing every possible outcome.

Trust God with what you cannot see yet.

God’s Word gives light when our emotions are loud, when pressure is heavy, when pride wants to defend, when fear wants control, and when the easy way looks more appealing than the faithful way.

Following God does not mean you will always know the whole path. It means you stay close enough to His truth to keep taking the next faithful step.

This week, children learned that God can be trusted, God shows the right way, God gives wisdom, and God’s way is good. Those truths are not only for children. They are for us too.

You can trust God when you do not understand everything.

You can ask Him to show you the right way.

You can ask Him for wisdom.

You can believe His way is good.

You can follow Him one step at a time.

Today, God may not show you the entire path. But He is faithful to give light for the step in front of you.

Adult Reflection Questions:

  1. Where am I wanting the whole path before I am willing to take the next step?

  2. What truth from God’s Word do I need to remember today?

  3. What is one faithful next step I can take with God’s help?

Simple Prayer:

“God, help me trust You with what I cannot see. Give me enough light for the step in front of me, and help me move forward in faith.”

Next Steps:

Instead of trying to figure out every outcome, look for the next faithful step God has already made clear — even if it feels small.
