June 3, 2026

Today at Son Seekers, your child learned that God hears us when we pray. They talked about Psalm 34:4–6 and how prayer is simply talking to God with honest, simple words. This page is here to help you have a simple, meaningful conversation at home.

Today’s Simple Truth:  I can talk to God because He hears me.

Bible Verse We Talked About: Psalm 34:4–6

(New International Reader’s Version)

4 I looked to the Lord, and he answered me.

He saved me from everything I was afraid of.

5 Those who look to him have joyful faces.

They are never covered with shame.

6 This poor man called out, and the Lord heard him.

He saved him out of all his troubles.

In Simple Words:

Today, your child learned that God is not too busy, too far away, or uninterested. God hears us when we pray. We can talk to Him when we are thankful, happy, scared, sad, confused, or need help. Prayer does not have to sound fancy or perfect. God cares about honest hearts.

Ask Your Child:

1. What does it mean to pray?

2. What is one simple thing you can say to God?

3. Who are trusted people you can talk to when you need help?

Try This Together:

Choose one simple prayer starter and let each person finish it silently or out loud.

Examples:

“God, thank You for ________.”

“God, help me with ________.”

“God, I feel ________.”

“God, please help ________.”

“God, be with ________.”

Then remind your child:

“God hears you because He loves you.”

Simple Prayer Option:

If praying out loud is new for your family, you can simply read this together:

“God, thank You that You hear us when we pray. Help us talk to You honestly and remember that You listen with love. Amen.”

If You Are New to This:

You do not have to make prayer feel formal. You can simply say, “God, thank You for today,” or “God, help us.” Short, honest prayers are a meaningful place to start.

Parent Encouragement:

Children do not need long or polished prayers to begin talking to God. A simple reminder like, “You can talk to God about that,” can help your child begin to see prayer as part of everyday life.

Adult Devotion: He Hears You

Scripture:   Psalm 34:4–6  NIV

4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me;

He delivered me from all my fears.

5 Those who look to him are radiant;

their faces are never covered with shame.

6 This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;

He saved him out of all his troubles.

Reflection Time:

Devotional Reading:

Psalm 34:4–6 gives us a picture of someone seeking the Lord and being heard. David says he sought the Lord, and the Lord answered him. He says the poor man called, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of his troubles.

This is a comforting truth for children. Children need to know that God is not far away from them. He is not too busy for them. He does not only listen to adults, pastors, teachers, or people who know all the right words. God hears children when they pray.

But this truth is not only for children.

Adults need to remember it too.

Sometimes adults stop bringing things to God because we feel like we should already be able to handle them. We may pray quickly, but still carry the weight ourselves. We may talk about prayer, teach prayer, or encourage children to pray, while quietly feeling unsure if our own worries, questions, or needs are worth bringing to God again.

Psalm 34 reminds us that seeking God is not weakness. Calling out to God is not childish. Needing help is not failure. Prayer is an act of trust. It is a way of saying, “God, I believe You hear me. I believe You care. I believe I do not have to carry this alone.”

God’s hearing is not distant or mechanical. He hears with love. He hears with compassion. He hears as a good Father who cares about His children.

That does not mean every prayer is answered the way we expect or on the timeline we want. But it does mean our prayers are not ignored, wasted, or unseen.

Today, remember that God hears you too. He hears the things you have said out loud and the things you have only carried quietly. He hears your prayers for your child, your concerns as a parent, your private needs, and the places where you feel stretched thin.

You are not praying into emptiness. You are talking to a God who listens with love.

Adult Reflection Questions:

1. What do I most often bring to God easily in prayer?

2. What do I tend to carry myself instead of bringing honestly to God?

3. What is one simple, honest prayer I can pray today?

Simple Prayer:

“God, thank You that You hear me when I pray. Help me come to You honestly instead of carrying everything alone. Remind me that You listen with love and care about what I bring to You. Amen.”

Optional Next Step:

Today, pause for ten seconds and pray one honest sentence.

Examples:

“God, help me with ________.” “God, thank You for ________.”

“God, I feel ________.” “God, please give me wisdom about ________.”
