Today at Son Seekers, your child learned that God is good and that we can learn to trust Him. They talked about Psalm 34:8, which says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” This page is here to help you have a simple, meaningful conversation at home.
Today’s Simple Truth: God is good, and I can learn to trust Him.
Bible Verse We Talked About: Psalm 34:8
(New International Reader’s Version)
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Blessed is the person who goes to him for safety.
In Simple Words:
Today, your child learned that God’s goodness is deeper than just having a good day or getting what we want. God is good because He is loving, faithful, safe, kind, and trustworthy. Even when a day feels hard or confusing, God’s goodness does not change.
Ask Your Child:
1. What does it mean that God is good?
2. What is one good thing you noticed today?
3. How can we trust God when a day feels hard?
Try This Together:
As a family, take turns naming one good thing you noticed today.
Examples:
“I saw God’s goodness when someone helped me.”
“I saw something beautiful outside.”
“I felt thankful for my family.”
“I was glad when someone was kind.”
Then say together:
“God is good, and we can trust Him.”
Simple Prayer Option:
If praying out loud is new for your family, you can simply read this together:
“God, thank You that You are good. Help us notice Your goodness and trust You on easy days and hard days. Amen.”
If You Are New to This:
You do not have to make this conversation long or formal. You can simply say, “I’m glad you learned that God is good.” Then ask your child to tell you one good thing from their day.
Parent Encouragement:
Children often begin to understand God’s goodness through simple, repeated reminders. A sentence like, “God is good, even when the day is hard,” can help your child connect faith to real life.
Adult Devotion: Trusting the Goodness of God
Scripture: Psalm 34:8 NIV
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Reflection Time:
Devotional Reading:
Psalm 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” This is more than a statement to memorize. It is an invitation to experience God’s goodness personally.
For children, “God is good” may sound simple. They may hear it in songs, prayers, or familiar phrases. But as adults, we know that trusting God’s goodness can feel more complicated. It is one thing to say God is good when life feels settled. It is another thing to trust His goodness when we are tired, disappointed, overwhelmed, waiting, or unsure what comes next.
Psalm 34 does not ask us to pretend that everything feels good. It invites us to come close enough to God to remember who He is. God’s goodness is not proven only when circumstances are easy. His goodness is part of His character.
God is good when the day goes smoothly.
God is good when plans change.
God is good when children are calm.
God is good when the room feels loud and stressful.
God is good when we feel confident.
God is good when we feel stretched thin.
His goodness is not fragile. It does not disappear when life is difficult.
As a parent, leader, or adult, you may be carrying responsibilities that children do not see. You may be managing schedules, decisions, stress, relationships, work, family needs, or quiet concerns. Psalm 34:8 invites you to bring those places to God instead of carrying them alone.
Trusting God’s goodness does not mean you understand everything. It does not mean every situation feels easy. It means you keep returning to what is true: God is loving, faithful, present, kind, and trustworthy.
Today, let this truth become personal. God is not only good in general. He is good toward you. He is good in the places where you feel uncertain. He is good in the parts of life that feel unfinished. He is good in the ordinary moments of your day.
You can trust His heart.
Adult Reflection Questions:
1. Where is it easiest for me to believe God is good?
2. Where is it harder for me to trust God’s goodness right now?
3. What is one small sign of God’s goodness I can notice today?
Simple Prayer:
“God, thank You that You are good. Help me trust Your goodness not only when life feels easy, but also when I feel tired, uncertain, or overwhelmed. Teach me to notice Your care and trust Your heart. Amen.”
Optional Next Step:
Today, look for one small sign of God’s goodness.
It may be:
“I noticed God’s goodness in ________.”
“I can thank God for ________.”
“I can trust God with ________.”
